How to design kid spaces into your new home

Looking for ways to create kid bathrooms that can easily transition as your family grows?

The photos below will inspire your own creative designs.  Here's how easy it is to personalize their spaces:

Kids bathroom ideas #1: Jack and Jill bathroom

Jack and Jill bathrooms are one of the most popular approaches to shared kids space, with built in details that fit their needs and personalities.

Jack and Jill designs allow you to plan ahead - when your children move out, a Jack and Jill design will be perfect for a guest room setup.

Take a look at these photos of popular Jack and Jill and split style bathrooms for kids:

Split bathroom:

In a split bathroom, the first room has a vanity and spacious closet. The second room has a vanity, tub and shower, and toilet facilities.

In a Jack and Jill style bathroom, each of two bedrooms has a private entrance to the bathroom (or split bathroom).

Kids bathroom ideas #2: Fun tile designs

Custom tile designs make kids bathrooms lively and fun.

Consider choosing a white, black, and grey tile design. These colors are classic, versatile and fun - no matter how old the user is. For kids, you can bring in splashes of color with shower curtains, towels, and soaps. For adults, you can emphasize the contemporary details such as the non-symmetrical tile placement.

For younger kids, consider tile designs in the shower/tub area and on the floor. In this example, the floor is outlined in a bubble black tile design, in a luxury suite that can also double as a mother in law suite.

Kids bathroom ideas #3: Wall panels and wainscot designs

Special details like a checker board tile design, cute towel hooks at a lower height, or classic wainscoting can add a lot of character (without a lot of cost) to kids bathrooms.

The emphasis on white, natural colors are timeless.

Kids bathroom ideas #4: Kid-height storage

From towels to toiletries, easy-to-use places to put things away is a must for kids bathrooms. Consider creative ways to add storage to your kid's bath - like these built-in ideas.

As your kids grow older, they will find new ways to take advantage of these storage spaces.

Kids bathroom ideas #5: Paint colors

Consider asking your kids for their ideas when designing their bathroom.

They could even come up with something truly usable you might not have thought about - or perhaps they'll just choose a favorite color that adds a splash of character.

Either way, they'll feel like they get to choose something - and that's part of what makes custom homes so fun for families.

These are some great ideas for bathrooms.  Here in NY, the wainscoting has become very popular.
