OK - But What Will I Actually Pay in Harnett County Property Taxes?

What do all those little numbers mean?  It's actually not as hard as it looks.

  1. Take the assessed value of the property.
  2. Divide by 100.
  3. Multiply by the tax rate.

This will give you the yearly tax amount, per 2008/2009 rates.

And just to give you an idea, here's a table of sample yearly tax payments for different sample assessed home values.

Harnett County Property Tax Rates - Lillington, Dunn, Angier, Coats, Fuquay Varina

This table gives sample property tax bills for all the towns and districts in Harnett County, NC:  Angier,  Benson, Coats, Erwin, Dunn, and Lillington.  Your tax bill can be lower if your home or property is not actually within a municipality, or town.

For 2008-2009, the district tax rates vary from .775% to 1.35%.  There is no guarantee that tax rates will remain the same - check the Harnett County Property Tax Page for most recent information.

Tax rates are based on the assessed value, not the actual sales price of the home.  If there is a discrepancy between the assessed value and the asking price of the home or lot, don't be afraid to ask your real estate agent to pull comps for you.  Assessed values are not always aligned well with market values, as assessments are often made several years apart.

If you know the pin number of the property you're interested in, you can look up the assessed value and actual tax rate - your agent will be able to provide you with this number.
